Chicken Wontons
Fold it, twist it, eat it, bop it.
8 oz ground chicken
8 scallions
1” piece of ginger, grated
soy sauce
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground pepper
package of square wonton wrappers
canola oil
How to do it
Thinly slice the scallions. Save 1-2 tsp of scallion for the dipping sauce and mix the rest in a big bowl with the ground chicken, grated ginger, 2 tsp soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix it all up good.
Make the dumplings. If you’ve never made dumplings before, maybe google it. Or just wing it. They’re your dumplings. The gist of it is: place one wrapper in your hand and put about a tsp of filling in the middle. Dip a finger in water and use it to wet the edges of the wrapper, then fold it in half diagonally over the filling and pinch the edges shut. Grab the two bottom corners and pull them together. Dab a little water on one corner so you can stick the two corners together. The dumpling should look extremely cute and tasty looking. Repeat with the rest of the wrappers until your filling is gone.
Heat oil in a pan over medium. Place the dumplings in the pan a little spaced out. Fry until the bottoms are a little brown, then splash a few tablespoons of water in the pan and cover with lid. Steam a few minutes until the dumplings get a little wrinkly.
Whip up a quick dipping sauce of soy sauce, scallions, and maybe a little leftover ginger. Enjoy that you have made something so delightfully cute and then eat them all.
